UNA Hosts Jean Schulman Exhibit and Gallery Reception

FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of North Alabama Art Gallery will host a reception with acclaimed local artist Jean Schulman from 4 to 7 p.m. July 22, with a gallery talk to take place at 4:30 p.m. Schulman’s exhibit is on display now through July 30.

Schulman, a 1975 alumna of UNA and retired art teacher from Muscle Shoals High School, is famous for her technique of making batiks using earth dyes derived exclusively from colored clays. Her work is part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of History and Technology.

Schulman is the 2008 recipient of the National Retired Art Educator of the Year Award.
