Film Festival to Welcome Record Number of Filmmakers

Feb. 11, 2011

FLORENCE, Ala. – The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival will welcome a record number of filmmakers for its 2011 event March 3-5. Already confirmed for attendance are representatives of 14 of the 30 films selected for screening and awards competition and six of the 20 screenplays competing for Golden Lion awards.

Festival organizers are excited that audiences will have the opportunity to talk with so many filmmakers during the Q&A sessions following each screening block. Many of the filmmakers will attend the festival Kick-Off Party at On the Rocks March 3 at 4 p.m. Filmmakers will also be on hand to talk with festival guests at an informal “Meet the Filmmakers” session March 4 at 12:30 p.m. in the Loft of UNA’s Guillot University Center.

All films will be screened at the Zodiac Theatre at 416 N. Court Street in downtown Florence.

The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival, in its 14th year, is one of the few film festivals hosted by a university. The event was founded in 1998 in part by UNA alumnus and celebrated actor and entertainer George Lindsey. Lindsey’s own film career has included several important roles, including the character Goober Pyle on “The Andy Griffith Show.”
