Existence of God Debate Sept. 29

Sep. 27, 2011

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Christian Student Center of the University of North Alabama will host its second-annual debate on the existence of God Sept. 29 from 7-9 p.m. in Norton Auditorium.

Blair Scott, communications director for American Atheist, will speak against the existence of God. Scott is a staff writer for American Atheist magazine and manages NoGodBlog, the official blog of the group. He also writes a regular column for The Huntsville Times and runs a podcast called The Critical Eye with co-host Tom Hand. Scott is the founder and public relations director of North Alabama Freethought Association in Huntsville.

Kyle Butt, a Christian apologist, will support the belief in God. He is a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University with a bachelor’s degree in bible and communications and a master’s in the New Testament. He has worked on more than 20 books throughout his career and served as editor of Discovery magazine for more than nine years.

The Christian Student Center hosted its first God debate last year featuring UNA students Colton Scott, a Christian, and Sean Schifano, an atheist. This year’s event, a collaborative effort between the student center and Scott, will be broadcast on apologeticspress.org and shared live at Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ in Florence. The debate is free to the public.
