Alabama is Major Theme of 2013 Lindsey Film Festival Screenings

FLORENCE, Ala. – The state of Alabama will become a major theme at this year’s George Lindsey UNA Film Festival screenings. The festival kicks off Feb. 27 at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center with the local VIP premiere of the acclaimed documentary “Muscle Shoals.” The film will screen again at Norton Auditorium on the UNA campus March 1.

The festival line-up also includes “Eating Alabama,” a professional documentary by Andrew Grace that looks at community, the South and sustainability, ultimately telling a story about why food matters. The Student Documentary category includes Shelby Hadden’s short film, “Never Got a Dime,” which tells the story of Lilly Ledbetter, the Goodyear employee from Gadsden whose fight for equal pay for women led to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is one of the few film festivals hosted by a university. The event was founded in 1998 by UNA alumnus and celebrated actor and entertainer, the late George Lindsey. Lindsey’s own film career included several important roles, including the character Goober Pyle on “The Andy Griffith Show.”
