Alexandra (McCarley) Wingo

Update: Alexandra is enrolled in the master’s in school counseling program at UNA and plans to graduate in 2020.

What are you doing now?

I am currently working for Integrated Behavior Health as a scribe/assistant. I follow the Psychiatrist and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Shoals Hospital and to various Nursing Homes/Assisted Living facilities in the area to provide psychiatric services. I plan to return to school next semester to get my Masters in School Counseling.

How did UNA's psychology program help you achieve what you have become?

In my experience, the best part of the Psychology program is the professors! They are challenging, but so helpful and intelligent. They helped me to be prepared for taking on the real-world by providing me with the tools I needed.

What advice would you give students who are interested in becoming UNA psychology majors?

My advice would be to definitely get involved in research! You will learn a lot, get hands-on experience, as well as just help you to feel more involved in the program. Also, make some good psych friends to study with!
