Victoria (Tuggle) McClellan

Update: Victoria earned her master’s degree in 2016 and is currently working as an occupational therapist for Encore Rehabilitation, Inc. in Falkville, AL.

What are you doing now?

I am in my last semester of graduate school at UAB School of Health Professions. Currently, I am completing a fieldwork rotation at a skilled nursing facility. I will graduate with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy on December 16, 2016.

How did UNA's Psychology program help you achieve what you have become?

As a future occupational therapist, I work with patients with various mental health diagnoses. Several of the UNA psychology courses provided me with a background for clinical application. The statistics and experimental courses also gave me a foundation for the research courses and projects I completed in graduate school. The faculty in UNA's psychology department were always supportive and encouraging, which has greatly contributed to where I am today.

What advice would you give students who are interested in becoming UNA Psychology majors?

A major in psychology has the potential to open many doors, not just a career in psychology. The faculty can be very helpful with assisting you in thinking about career options. Also, I would suggest getting involved with research and the organizations (like Psychology Club) within the psychology department. You get to know the faculty better and you make friends too!
