Honor Societies

The University of North Alabama has two active honor societies for fraternity and sorority members (Gamma Sigma Alpha and Order of Omega). We are currently in the process of starting a third honor society, Rho Lambda, for sorority members. Information on the honor societies can be found below.

Gamma Sigma Alpha is a national Greek academic honor society. The Tau chapter of Gamma Sigma Alpha was chartered at UNA in the early 2000's. Although the honor society was inactive for a short period, Gamma Sigma Alpha has been active again at UNA since spring 2017.

Gamma Sigma Alpha is for junior or senior fraternity and sorority members who earn a 3.5 cumulative GPA or a 3.5 term GPA during a semester of their junior or senior year. Those eligible receive an email invitation to join. Invitations are issued in the fall and spring semesters, as an induction is held each semester.

Gamma Sigma Alpha nationally offers scholarships for undergraduate and graduate members. To learn more about the national scholarship program for GSA members, please visit https://www.gammasigmaalpha.org/gsa-scholarships-gpa-awards/

Order of Omega is a leadership honor society for fraternity and sorority members. The Eta Omega chapter of Order of Omega was chartered at UNA on April 22, 1987.

Order of Omega membership is limited; we are only able to initiate 3% of the total number of fraternity and sorority members at the beginning of the fall semester. However, we typically split this number and hold initiations twice a year- once in the spring and once in the fall. Those meeting the minimum standards, a junior or senior with a cumulative GPA above the all Greek average, receive an invitation to apply. Applications are scored based on fraternity and sorority involvement, community service, GPA, and campus involvement.

Order of Omega nationally offers undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships to members. To learn more about the national scholarship program for OOO members, please visit http://orderofomega.org/scholarshipfellowship/

Rho Lambda is a national sorority leadership recognition society. UNA previously had an active Rho Lambda in the early 200s, but the organization has been inactive for some time. The Panhellenic Council is working to reactivate this organization beginning in fall 2019.

Rho Lambda is open to sorority women who are juniors or seniors and have a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Rho Lambda membership is limited; we are only able to initiate 10% of the total number of  sorority members at the beginning of the fall semester. However, we will split this number and hold initiations twice a year- once in the spring and once in the fall.
