Meet Our Mathematics Peer Mentors

Our Mathematics Peer Mentors are successful veteran Mathematics Fellows who provide support to 3-4 current Math Fellows through:

  • Observing SI sessions and providing valuable feedback from the session
  • Leading problem-solving and brainstorming group sessions with their assigned Fellows
  • Assisting with all communication between math Fellows and faculty supervisors
  • Providing any needed support for their assigned Fellows (course content, relationship with Faculty Mentor, new ideas for SI sessions, required documentation, etc.)

The following students are our FALL 2019 Mathematics Peer Mentors

     Kara Nix

Kara is a junior pursuing a double major in Industrial Hygiene and Chemistry. After her four years at UNA, she would love to be able to go to medical school and eventually become a pediatrician. Kara graduated from Muscle Shoals High School as class valedictorian in May 2017. She runs cross country for UNA and is also a part of the Honors College.  Kara serves as lab assistant for the General Chemistry labs and previously served UNA as an Alternative Breaks site leader where she co-led a trip to Tahlequah, Oklahoma in Spring 2018. Last school year, Kara served as a Mathematics Fellow for MA 115 in the fall and MA 110 in the spring. A few fun facts about Kara:  she loves quirky socks, drinks an exorbitant amount of coffee, and hates odd numbers.
