Department Overview
The Department of Geography at the University of North Alabama is a dynamic and collegial group of seven faculty members, two emeritus professors, a department administrator, and over 120 undergraduate majors. The department supports one of the larger undergraduate geography programs in the country. Our faculty are actively engaged in teaching and research that spans the discipline and the globe.
The University of North Alabama is a comprehensive, regional university with an enrollment of over 7000 students. UNA was founded in 1830 and is the oldest public university in the state. UNA is located north of the Tennessee River in Florence. The campus is surrounded by historic districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The original campus master plan was developed by the Frederick Law Olmstead firm and the university has maintained its picturesque, pedestrian campus of shaded walkways, manicured gardens, fountains, sculptures, and historic buildings.
