What is Greek
Life?
Being
involved in a Greek-letter organization provides various
leadership opportunities on campus, in the community, within the
local chapter and long after graduation. By getting involved in
fraternity or sorority life, a Greek can gain first hand
experience in supporting a leader, being a team player, working
together, and leading others. Greeks at UNA are seen in
different leadership roles across campus including SGA, UPC,
Miss UNA, SOAR counselors and the LaGrange Society just to name
a few.
Greek
organizations encourage students to achieve in all areas of
campus life, most importantly, in academics. Through various
scholarship opportunities, honor societies, recognition
ceremonies and incentive programs, our Greek students
consistently achieve at high scholastic levels. Certain GPA's
are required by both the individual chapters and the Office of
Student Engagement to be active members of our fraternities and
sororities. Our Greek councils assures that these GPA's are not
only achieved but also maintained.
Countless
hours and dollars are donated annually by our Greek students to
various charitable organizations. Each chapter donates their
efforts not only to their specific national
philanthropy but in and around the Shoals area. Some of our
students have hosted a "Senior Prom" where our men and women
serve as dance partners at a local nursing home, others spend
their time helping out at the Boys and Girls Club, and some can
be seen in town picking litter up off the highways. Our students
are always willing to lend a helping hand to learn more about
others and themselves.

Being a member of a
Greek organization is like that of no other. By joining a
fraternity or sorority, students are gaining a second family, a
constant support system, national recognition, and many unique
and valuable friendships that they will carry with them long
after graduation.
