Service


Alternative Break Board – The purpose of Alternative Break Board is to offer educational and service opportunites to UNA students during official university breaks.

Campus Civitans – UNA Campus Civitans is a service organization offering opportunities for students to enhance personal development, to broaden career opportunities through community service, and to make new and lasting friendships.

Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter – The Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter supports and promotes Habitat for Humanity International's goal of eliminating substandard housing in the world. The organization works closely with the local Shoals Habitat for Humanity affiliate on its construction projects in this area. Membership is open to any interested UNA student, and everyone in the UNA community is welcome to participate on projects.

IMPACT – IMPACT is a team of students chosen to assist with the development, implementation, and promotion of various leadership programs at UNA. In addition, IMPACT team members provide input regarding future leadership development needs of UNA's student population. It serves as an excellent resource to other student organizations and is available to perform speaking engagements on various leadership related topics.

Leadership UNA – Leadership UNA is a comprehensive leadership development program. It is an honor to be selected and participants can expect to gain valuable leadership skills necessary to be a leader both on campus and in the community. The program coombines informal classroom education with experimental learning opportunities to produce an experience that participants will benefit from for a lifetime.

Presidential Mentors Academy – The purpose of Presidential Mentors is to further the goal of diversity, the Academy supports opportunities for students whose racial group is unrepresented on the UNA campus. The Presidential Mentors Academy provides living/learning experiences for incoming minority freshmen students while maintaining the admission and academic standards of the University. The program combines academic success with financial assistance. The membership of the Academy shall include all students receiving the Presidential Mentor Academy Scholarship.

Rotaract Club of the Shoals at UNA – The purpose of the Rotaract Club is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their community, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide.

SOAR Counselors - provide peer counseling, academic scheduling and orientation to the university community for incoming students. Students interested in serving as SOAR counselors must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and should be of sophomore or junior status. Students must apply for the position in October. All applicants are interviewed by a selection committee and those selected are required to complete ED 295 in the spring semester. The Campus Green - The purpose of this organization is to promote energy conservation and environmental awareness.

The Student Government Association - gives students a chance to represent their fellow students and their university, as it is the students' voice to the administration. SGA promotes cooperation, unity, support, and worthwhile activities of student life, while helping students develop organizational and leadership skills. The SGA is divided into executive, legislative, programming, and judicial branches. The Senate and the Freshman Forum comprise the legislative branch. The University Program Council functions as the programming branch, and the Student Court is the judicial branch. Both officers and senators are elected each Spring, but positions may be filled by appointment throughout the year. The University of North Alabama Band - is a multifaceted organization which includes the “Pride of Dixie” Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, and Pep Band. Scholarships are available, through audition, to all members regardless of academic major. For more information, contact Lloyd Jones at 765-4362.

The UNA Color Guard - provides visual impact for the “Pride of Dixie” Marching Band. Members must be experienced in basic color guard techniques or have an interest in learning. Scholarships are available to all those selected as members. Auditions for the UNA Color Guard are held in the spring semester. For more information, contact Lloyd Jones at 765-4362.

The UNA Lionettes - are the dance line which performs as a part of the “Pride of Dixie” Marching Band. Members must have an interest in dance and performance. Auditions for the Lionette Dance Line are held in the spring semester. For more information, contact Lloyd Jones at 765-4362.

The UNA Majorettes - are an integral part of the “Pride of Dixie” Marching Band. Prior experience as a majorette is required. Scholarships are available to all those selected as members. The University Program Council - plans, initiates and assists in productions and activities designed to enhance the university’s social, intellectual and recreational calendar. Each student organization selects a representative member and an alternate member to attend meetings and serve on UPC. All interested students are encouraged to attend.
