UNA provides a high quality education, with
relatively low costs for tuition and fees, which translates
into an excellent educational value.
Students who attend UNA as either residents on-campus or commuters
from off-campus enjoy considerable savings from their counterparts
at private colleges and universities. This magnitude of savings,
by attending UNA instead of a private college or university
over 4 years, is enough to pay for a new automobile and a
down payment on a small home or condominium. It is considerably
less expensive to attend UNA as an on-campus resident student
(enjoying all the benefits of the college experience) or as
a commuting student (enjoying most of the benefits of the
college experience) than to stay overnight for a comparable
period at a middle-priced motel. Another useful comparison
reveals that it is less expensive to attend UNA, acquire
a quality undergraduate education, enjoy the college experience,
and be prepared to face the challenges of a dynamic workplace
and an internationally competitive economy, than to purchase
and operate a mid-sized automobile or truck for the same time
period.

Monthly Payment Options for Students and Families
Through a commercial provider (see the website at www.afford.com), the University of North Alabama provides a monthly payment plan that enables students and families to spread all or part of annual expenses over equal monthly payments, eliminating the need for lump sum payments at the beginning of each term.
This interest-free monthly payment option is designed for students and families who do not want or need a loan to pay for tuition and other expenses, but who are interested in spreading payments out prior to and during each semester. This payment plan is available to all students and families for a small annual up-front service fee.

Additional information about Tuition and Fees, and Monthly Payment options, are available from the business office at (256) 765-4441 or 1-800-TALK UNA extension 4441..

It has separate and additional accreditations for its Colleges of Business (i.e., ACBSP), Education (i.e., NCATE),Nursing and Allied Health (i.e., NLN). Additionally, UNA has accreditation or certification in a number of disciplinary areas such as art, music, and social work.
4. CAN I TRANSFER TO UNA FROM ANOTHER HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY?
UNA will accept transfer credits only from accredited and recognized institutions with a cumulative GPA of minimum 2.0 out of 4.0 scale. All transfer students must provide official transcripts for all higher education institutions they attended after graduating from high school. UNA may ask for a WES evaluation for non-US institution transcripts. If a student is dismissed from an institution for any reason and not eligible to reenroll in the previous institution, then UNA will reject the application.
5. IS THERE AN ATTENDANCE POLICY AT UNA?
Whenever a student's cumulative absences for any reason - excused or unexcused - exceed the equivalent of four weeks of scheduled classes and activities, no credit may be earned for the course. Additionally, the Intensive English Program has a very strict attendance policy where students may be dismissed if they are absent from classes more than 20 hours per session (1 session = 8 Weeks), including excused absences.
6. CAN I WORK WHILE STUDYING AT UNA?
Off-campus work for international students without a valid permission granted from the Immigration and Naturalization Services is illegal. International students are eligible only for on-campus jobs and almost 30% of our international students work on campus. UNA does not guarantee any working opportunities for any students.
7. IS IT MANDATORY TO HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE?
It is a legal requirement by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services that all international students must carry health insurance from a United States company during their stay in the United States. The student will be charged automatically if he or she does not provide official proof of the insurance.
8. CAN I RECEIVE A SCHOLARSHIP FROM UNA?
UNA provides academic scholarship opportunities for full-time undergraduate students in a regular academic program (not the Intensive English Program). However, most scholarships are awarded during the winter preceding the student’s planned attendance in the fall semester. Therefore, students interested in obtaining a scholarship must be unconditionally admitted to UNA, have an official ACT or SAT test scores and all the non-U.S. high school work course-by-course evaluation by ECE, Education Credentials Evaluators, Inc. have submitted to the Admissions Office at UNA prior to February 1, in the year in which they intend to attend UNA in the Fall semester. In addition to these scholarships, full-time undergraduate and graduate students in regular academic programs (not the Intensive English Program) are eligible for most of the endowed scholarships, which are awarded on the basis of the restrictive criteria established by the donors in agreement with the University of North Alabama. Most of these available scholarships are granted after evaluating the performance of the student’s work at UNA, so that it is strongly recommended to the student to study at least one semester before applying for any endowed scholarship. Certain scholarships (e.g. Athletics, Band, Residence Assistance, Cheerleader, LaGrange Society) will require tryouts and interviews prior to consideration and award. There are also work-study positions available on campus for interested students."
9. DOES UNA PROVIDE ANY TRANSPORTATION FROM THE AIRPORT?
UNA provides airport transportation only from and to the Huntsville International Airport and Northwest Alabama Regional Airport. Please do not forget to inform the UNA International Student Office for flight details by fax at +1 (256) 765-4877, by phone at +1 (256) 765-4626, or by e mail at intrnatl@unanov.una.edu.
10. DO I HAVE TO STAY IN RESIDENCE HALLS DURING MY FIRST YEAR?
The students have the freedom to choose to stay on campus or not. However, UNA recommends that students stay in residence halls during the first two semesters. Office of Housing and Residence Life does not provide any assistance to find off campus places. There are only 81 University apartments available on campus and due to the limited number and high demand, there is a waiting list for these apartments. Student must apply at least 2 semesters before moving in.
11. HOW MUCH MONEY DO I NEED FOR MY PERSONAL EXPENSES?
It is very hard to estimate personal expenses due to the differences in tastes, preferences and life styles. However, under normal conditions, if the student is staying on campus and holding a meal plan, $250-$400 per month should be enough.
