Criminal Statistics

The University is required to disclose statistics for all Clery Act crimes that occur within UNA’s Clery Geography and are reported to Campus Security Authorities (CSAs), including any statistics received from local law enforcement agencies, in the Annual Security & Fire Safety Report (ASFSR).

Clery Act crimes include the “Primary Crimes” of Murder/Nonnegligent Manslaughter, Manslaughter by Negligence, Rape, Fondling, Incest, Statutory Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Arson. Statistics must also include the total number of persons arrested and referred for disciplinary action for Liquor, Drug, and Weapon Law Violations. Institutions must also disclose statistics for the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) crimes of Dating Violence, Domestic Violence and Stalking as well as for hate crimes. Hate crimes must be reported for all Clery Act crimes for which the University must disclose general crime statistics, except Manslaughter by Negligence, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Stalking, and arrests and referrals for disciplinary action involving Liquor, Drug, and Weapon Law Violations. Hate crime statistics must also be reported for the offenses of Larceny-Theft, Simple Assault, Intimidation, and Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property when these crimes are determined through investigation to have been motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender’s bias.

UNA must also disclose crime reports which have been “unfounded” by a sworn law enforcement officer who has fully investigated the report and made a formal determination that the crime reported is false or baseless; rendering it “unfounded”.

Statistics are disclosed in the currently published ASFSR for the 3 most recent calendar years preceding the report’s publication.  The crimes are tallied onto the crime statistic table as occurring in the geographical categories of “On-Campus”, “Non-Campus”, and “Public Property”.  Those crimes that occur “On-Campus” and within a residential facility, are also counted in the “Residential Housing” subset category.  Maps and details regarding these Clery geographical definitions can also be found within the currently published ASFSR.

Please search the current ASFSR for any of these areas within the Table of Contents at the beginning of the report.
