FLORENCE, Ala. – University of North Alabama senior Heather Fields won second place honors in a recent National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) Student Competition.  Fields, who is a member of the interior design program at UNA, squared off against students from across the country in the 2014/2015 NKBA Student Design Competition – East Tennessee Gentleman’s Farm, which offered $10,000 in scholarships and prizes.

Fields was selected to compete out of hundreds of entries from NKBA student members at colleges and universities across North America.  The students were then tasked with developing a functional floorplan for a real set of clients who were building a custom home in the heart of east Tennessee.

“Winning proves that my experience at UNA in the interior design concentration has prepared me for the interior design industry,” Fields said.  “And I look forward to the opportunity to network with interior design professionals at the upcoming Kitchen & Bath Industry Show.”

Winners were selected by a panel of NKBA certified industry experts for their designs.  Fields placed second overall in kitchen design.

The following is a list of the Kitchen design winners:

  • 1st Place:  Kayla Soto, Lakeland College, Vermilion, Alberta, Canada
  • 2nd Place:  Heather Fields, University of North Alabama, Florence, AL
  • 3rd Place:  Laura Cobb, Lakeland College, Vermilion, Alberta, Canada

Fields will accept her award and $1,500 scholarship, along with the other winners at the upcoming NKBA Design Competition Awards event, Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, during the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show 2016 in Las Vegas.
