'Back to the Future' Reunion Continues After Lea Thompson Cancels Appearance

FLORENCE, Ala. – Actor Lea Thompson has cancelled her appearance at Friday’s “Back to the Future” 25th anniversary celebration due to scheduling conflicts with a new movie and television pilot. The event will continue with writer/producer Bob Gale and actors James Tolkan and Claudia Wells, who will discuss their experiences in making the iconic “Back to the Future.”

The “Back to the Future” celebration will begin at 7 p.m. at the Shoals Theatre in downtown Florence. The event is part of the 2010 George Lindsey UNA Film Festival.

Gale will also appear for an autograph session from 4 to 5 p.m. at the House of Heroes comic store in downtown Florence. Tolkan and Wells will have an autograph session from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Shoals Chamber of Commerce.

The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is one of the few film festivals hosted by a university. The event was founded in 1998 in part by UNA alumnus and celebrated actor and entertainer George Lindsey. Lindsey’s own film career has included several important roles, including the character Goober Pyle on “The Andy Griffith Show.”
