Film Festival to Hold Special Salute to Founder George Lindsey

Jan. 24, 2011

FLORENCE, Ala. – This year’s George Lindsey UNA Film Festival will hold a special salute to its founder George Lindsey March 4 at 7 p.m. in the Guillot University Center banquet halls. Among the special guests present for the event will be gospel singer and comedian LuLu Roman, who appeared on “Hee Haw” with Lindsey for many years. The salute to Lindsey is in recognition of his successful career on screen as well as his service to his alma mater, the University of North Alabama. Tickets will go on sale in mid February.

The 14th annual George Lindsey UNA Film Festival will be held March 3-5 in Florence. It is one of the few film festivals hosted by a university. The event was founded in 1998 in part by Lindsey, whose own film career has included several important roles, including the character Goober Pyle on “The Andy Griffith Show.”
