RN to MSN

UNA's BSN and MSN programs are both accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Our BSN is accredited for the term of 10 years through June 30, 2021; MSN is accredited for the term of 10 years through June 30, 2023.

  • Students completing their BSN under the RN to MSN concentration will have completed 9 credit hours (one semester) of graduate coursework at the time of admittance to the MSN program. As a result, RN to MSN students will only lack 23 credit hours, once admitted to the MSN program, to complete their graduate degree!

HOW TO APPLY

  1. Apply for admission, https://www.una.edu/apply/index.html, selecting the RN to MSN option.
  2. Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  3. After completing at least 12 hrs of nursing courses, students will confer with their academic advisor to receive permission to register for graduate-level coursework.
  4. Successfully complete designated graduate courses (9 hrs.)
    1. NU 502- Health Policy, Social Issues, & Theory
    2. NU 508 - Advanced Health Assessment
    3. NU 509 - Diversity, Ethics, Health Promotion, & Informatics in Patient Centered Care
  5. Apply for BSN Graduation.
  6. Apply to the MSN program. **

*Prerequisites for enrollment in Graduate Courses as an undergraduate: 
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA after completing at least 12 credit hours of undergraduate nursing courses at UNA.
  • Must have advisor permission prior to enrollment.

**Must meet all requirements as specified in the Graduate Catalog.


Please note:
This online program does not lead to any professional licensure or certification that would be regulated by your state board of nursing.  Our program does include clinical requirements which are completed in your community under the supervision of a preceptor who you will secure with assistance from the course instructor. If your state Board of Nursing (BON) requires approval of a supervised field experience, such professional approval requirements remain in effect.
