Student Conduct Process

Flow Chart

Notification of Possible Violation:

Students recognized student organizations, or student groups receive a Notification of Possible Violation when it is believed they have allegedly violated the Code of Student Conduct.  This Notification of Possible Violation is sent via university email and will include the date, time, and location to attend a Student Conduct Conference where the incident that was reported will be discussed.

Interim Measures:

The Office of Student Conduct reserves the right to enforce interim measures to ensure the safety of the student(s)/student organization or the university community as a whole.  These interim measures may be enforced pending the outcome of an investigation or Student Conduct Process/Title IX Process.  These interim measures will be communicated in writing.

Student Conduct Conference:

A Student Conduct Conference is an informal conference where a representative from the Office of Student Conduct and the student meet to discuss the incident that was reported and the role they played in the incident.  These are scheduled no earlier than three (3) days after the Notification of Possible Violation is sent to the charged university email.

If it is found that the student, recognized student organization, or student group did play a role in the incident and/or they did violate the Code of Student Conduct, charges through the Code of Student Conduct will be made and a sanction will be required in order to stay in good standing with the University of North Alabama.  Failure to appear for the Student Conduct Conference may result in a hold placed on the student’s account and/or the Student Conference taking place without the student’s presence.

Student Conduct Board Hearing:

A Student Conduct Board Hearing is utilized when more serious alleged violations of the Code of Student Conduct apply. These are scheduled no earlier than five (5) days after the Notification of Possible Violation is sent to the charged student’s or Recognized Student Organization’s university email.

Student Conduct Board Hearings use a hearing panel of students to hear all information gathered by the Office of Student Conduct along with any information provided by the student charged with the violation.  Information provided to the panel by the Office of Student Conduct and the student charged includes but is not limited to witnesses, video footage, and/or text messages.  The panel of students makes the decision of whether the student is found responsible or not responsible along with suggesting an appropriate sanction to the Office of Student Conduct.  Failure to appear for the Student Conduct Board Hearing will result in the hearing taking place without the student’s presence

Not Responsible:

If it is found that the student did not play a role in the incident reported and/or they did not violate the Code of Student Conduct, no charges through the Code of student Conduct will be made.  There will be no record of violating the Code of Student Conduct kept.

*All records and recordings will be kept and maintained within the Office of Student Conduct.
