Honors College Pathways

 

To Maintain Honors Scholarships and Graduate from the Honors College, Students Must Meet the Following Requirements

  • A cumulative 3.25 gpa on all courses, UNA and transfer, used to meet University graduation requirements
  • Satisfactory progress toward completion of Honors College requirements based on the option selected (see below)

We strongly encourage thoughtful participation in the following areas:

  • Civic Engagement & Citizenship: service, volunteering, and participation in public life 
  • Professional Learning Experiences of all kinds: internships, shadowing, co-ops, practica, paid employment, etc.
  • Experience with Other Cultures: study abroad, study away, language study and partner programs
  • Research & Performance: lab and field work, innovation, visual, musical, material, and creative arts

Honors Options

Students should choose an option prior to the sophomore year. Visit with a staff member for more information.

Option 1 

  • Honors Forum (HON 101H) First-year students only
  • 21 total hours of Honors courses (includes HON 101H and credit hours in major for Senior Project)
  • Honors Senior Project (individual for-credit project in the major), to be completed in tandem HON 499H Honors Senior Project (0 hour course): students should enroll in this non-credit bearing course in addition to a 3 hour course in the major in which the work is being completed
  • Honors Professional Learning Experience (internship or similar experience), to be completed in tandem with HON 498H Honors Professional Learning Experience (0 hour course): students should enroll in this non-credit bearing course in addition to the internship or other activity in which the experience is completed

Option 2

  • Honors Forum (HON 101H) First-year students only
  • 21 total hours of Honors courses (includes HON 101H) 
  • 2 year HON 497H Honors Experiential Learning ePortfolio (0 hour course does not formally meet): students should enroll in this non-credit bearing course and maintain the ePortfolio for four semesters

Option 3

  • Honors Forum (HON 101H) First-year students only
  • 12 total hours of Honors courses
  • Global Studies Certificate in the College Arts & Sciences or the College of Business 
  • Substantial Study Abroad Experience/preferably one month or more

Option 4

  • Honors Forum (HON 101H) First-year students only
  • 27 total hours of Honors courses 

Option 5 (Dual Degree Engineering)

The Honors Dual Degree Engineering Option allows students to complete Honors requirements at UNA and Honors requirements at a partner institution as part of UNA's Dual Degree Engineering Option. Students in the Honors College at UNA must remain in a dual degree engineering sequence to follow the Honors Engineering Track.

  • Honors Forum (HON 101H) First-year students only
  • 18 total hours of Honors courses which can include Honors courses and/or Honors credit granted at either institution.

Option 6 (Transfer Option)

For students transferring from another institution or current students entering the Honors College as juniors or seniors, the following curricular option is available:

  • 9 Honors hours completed at UNA (includes credit hours in the major for Senior Project)

  • Honors Senior Project & HON 499H Honors Senior Project (0-hour course): students enroll in the non-credit bearing HON 499H in addition to a credit bearing course in the major in which an approved project is completed. Senior Projects may be research, experiential, or performance in nature.

  • Honors Professional Learning Experience & HON 498H Honors Professional Learning Experience (0-hour course): students enroll in non-credit bearing HON 498H in addition to an internship or other approved professional learning activity in which the experience is completed.
