Welcome to Secondary Education!

Secondary Education offers programs leading to recommendations for Alabama professional educator certifications. There are areas of certification at the undergraduate level leading to a Bachelor of Science in Education. There are areas of certification at the graduate level leading to a Traditional Masters of Art in Education and to an Alternative Masters of Art in Education. Secondary Education also offers two areas of certification at the Education Specialist level. Students with majors outside of Secondary Education may also add a minor in Education. A listing of these programs can be found under the Academic Programs section.

All Class B and Class A programs are approved by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) and are accredited through 2020 by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), now consolidated into a new accrediting body, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Graduates of the University of North Alabama's programs are knowledgeable, practicing professionals who are prepared as outstanding educators and leaders through achievement of the highest standards of knowledge and practice to assist all students in learning.

Secondary Education also hosts two non-certification graduate programs in International ESOL and Curriculum and Instruction as well as an undergraduate minor in Educational Studies for students who wish to have the knowledge of the field of Education, but who do not wish to obtain teaching certification in Alabama.
