Funding Opportunities

The Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs (OGSP) provides assistance to faculty to research funding opportunities. The OGSP staff routinely reviews grant announcements from government and non-governmental sources to evaluate their alignment with UNA's research and service objectives. In addition to broad strategic alignment with University goals and objectives, OGSP can assist with searches for funding opportunities that will advance specific faculty proposals. Please contact Nathan Willingham, for further assistance. Additionally, several useful tools for grant research are provided below.

The Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs researches opportunities and distributes a biweekly collection of new opportunities.

Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs, Grant Announcements Vol. I (2018-2019) is the U.S. federal government's central directory of discretionary funding opportunities. It is a website that allows users to search and to apply for federal funding opportunities. The site has a variety of training resources for grant seekers, writing tools, and user guides that demonstrate the search and applications functions found at Search and subscription services allow users to find funding opportunities from currently open announcements as well as past grant program notices. This is a valuable resource for researching the funding landscape for potential projects and for staying informed about grant opportunities.
To access the GrantSearch database, login to UNAPortal and click on the ‘GrantSearch’ tab. Users can search the funding opportunity database using five criteria: academic subject, activity, funding sponsor, deadline month, and text.

In addition, users can set up a ‘Faculty Alert.’  The Faculty Alert System provides registered users with customized monthly reports on funding opportunities in selected areas of interest. Faculty alerts are drawn from the GRC Deadlines publication, which gives members 90 days' notice of higher education grant and contract competitions in all disciplines. By registering for alerts and identifying specific areas of interest, faculty members can receive desktop delivery of the opportunities most relevant to them.

After login, other resources to assist with proposal submission are found at  These resources include examples of funded proposals, agency fact sheets, and resources for writing competitive proposals.
