Each summer, UNA’s TRIO SSS program offers a Summer Bridge Program to “bridge” the gap between high school and college. Participating students will learn important skills for studying, test taking and navigating college academics. Courses covered include financial literacy, math, English, writing, note taking and learning styles.
The Summer Bridge Program is free of charge for students and consists of two parts:
First, students will enroll in an online summer course of EN 099 or MA 100. This will be a condensed course taken throughout the month of June. TRIO will provide students with tutoring to ensure every program participants success in their elected course.
After the completion of the online portion of Summer Bridge, we will gather on campus for the in-person portion of Summer Bridge. Participants will get the opportunity to familiarize themselves with campus resources and engage in activities and workshops designed to prepare students for a successful Freshman year. Potential topics covered in the Summer Bridge Program include:
- Navigating Canvas
- It’s Academic: Understanding College Expectations
- Find Your Learning Style
- Understanding Financial Aid
- Pass that Class: How to be Successful in College
- Roar Lions: Introducing UNA
- Finding Your Place: Getting Involved on Campus
- Fun team-building activities
- English Prep: Building your English and Writing Skills
- It’s a Numbers Game: Building Your Math Skills
- Mental Health and Wellness
