The University of North Alabama's Department of Engineering and Industrial Professions is where innovation meets opportunity. Whether you're driven to design the future, optimize technology, or make workplaces safer and smarter, our programs are built to launch your success. Housed in UNA’s cutting-edge Science and Technology Building, our department offers an immersive learning environment with state-of-the-art labs, expert faculty, and strong connections to regional and national industries.

Our diverse, ABET-accredited academic offerings include interdisciplinary bachelor’s degrees in Engineering, Engineering Technology, and Occupational Health Science.
We also offer an associate’s degree in Mechatronics, a fully online master’s degree in Applied Manufacturing Engineering, and multiple specialized certificates tailored to high-demand fields such as power generation, manufacturing, and engineering management.

The EIP department offers students access to state-of-the-art laboratories that provide immersive, hands-on learning experiences across various engineering disciplines. The Lowell M. and Judith Carolyn Guthrie Mechanical Engineering Lab features advanced CNC equipment, 3D printers, and materials testing systems for manufacturing, design, and structural analysis courses. Students in the Electrical Engineering Lab gain valuable experience in circuit design, robotics, and green energy through access to oscilloscopes, PLC trainers, solar and wind energy trainers, and Arduino kits. These facilities support core coursework and foster essential skills in automation, controls, and sustainable energy systems.

In addition, the department's Biological and Chemical Labs—developed in collaboration with UNA’s Biology and Chemistry departments—feature high-end equipment like photobioreactors and chemical reactors for students pursuing bioengineering or chemical engineering tracks.

The Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) Lab provides exposure assessment, air sampling, noise monitoring, ventilation design, and industrial hygiene instrumentation, while the Power Generation Lab provides opportunities with a variety of energy systems, including conventional and renewable power generation technologies such as fossil fuels, solar, wind, and hydroelectric sources.

Thanks to strong industry partnerships, students gain real-world experience through co-op and internship opportunities, and our Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) allows qualified undergraduates to earn a master’s degree faster—and at a lower cost.

Whether you're a student exploring your future, a parent seeking a strong academic home for your child, or a company looking to assist in shaping the next generation of engineering talent, the Department of Engineering and Industrial Professions at UNA is your gateway to purpose-driven impact.

When I set out to pursue my passion for chemical engineering, UNA immediately stood out. It wasn't just the courses; it was the incredible faculty and the warm, supportive vibe that drew me in. The professors aren't just teachers; they're mentors who genuinely care about our understanding… UNA's focus on blending theory with hands-on experience resonated perfectly with my career goals.
