Interim Dean's Message

Welcome to the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of North Alabama! With roots tracing back to 1872 as the first state-supported teachers’ college south of the Ohio River, UNA continues it rich history of preparing exceptional educators. In addition, the college has expanded greatly to include a dynamic and diverse portfolio of programs centered on exercise science, health promotion, wellness, counseling, instructional technology and design and sport and recreation management. The contemporary, student-centered curriculum and engaging experiences effectively prepare our graduates to enter the workforce as practitioners or successfully continue their education in post-graduate programs.

Within the College of Education and Human Sciences, I have been privileged to be a part of the phenomenal faculty who develop and deliver our academic programs. Faculty members in the college are not only outstanding teachers but also highly productive scholars who are leaders on campus, in their profession and in the community. They are the catalysts within the academic units which create the educational opportunities for students to develop into sought after professionals.

Our college is characterized by a reputation of excellence. Among the highlights are Kilby Laboratory School, the only one of its kind in the state, the Human Performance Lab in the Department of Kinesiology which supports UNA’s first Ph.D. program, and the Education Research and Inservice Center which supports educators across our region. Coupling an extraordinary faculty with innovative programs, valuable external partnerships and outstanding facilities creates a winning combination in which our college positively impacts our community, state, region and beyond.

I hope you find the resources on the COEHS website helpful. Contact us and find your place in the UNA Pride.
