Fingerprint Clearance

ALL University of North Alabama education majors must secure background suitability clearance from the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) based on ASBI/FBI fingerprints. Suitability clearance must be secured prior to registering for any education courses which include clinical experiences. Clearance through the Police Department or DHR will not satisfy this requirement.

 Each applicant will need the following to complete the registration process successfully:

  • A computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access
  • A valid email account
  • Established AIM account
  • Fee of $46.20 paid by Debit card, credit card, or PayPal Account (Prepaid debit cards or credit cards are acceptable)
  • Ability to provide their commonly known personal information (SSN, DOB, DL#, Height, Weight, etc.)

Step 1: Register - Be sure to follow the exact required sequence below

  • Create an AIM Account 
  • Complete Background Check Registration in AIM
  • Create Fieldprint Account Instructions
  • Complete authorization forms, schedule appointment, and pay fingerprint fee 

Step 2: Get Fingerprinted

     The Fieldprint fingerprinting site closest to UNA is Central Mail Stop. Fieldprint locations link

Take one copy of your fingerprint registration receipt to the Central Mail Stop (or closest Fieldprint location to you) fingerprinting office.
  • Make sure you bring a state-issued photo ID to the appointment.
  • Central Mail Stop will take your fingerprints and transmit them electronically to the Alabama State Department of Education. It usually takes 2-3 days for the ALSDE to receive your clearance.

 Step 3: Confirm Clearance

  • In 7-10 business days, you should receive a letter via USPS from the Alabama State Department of Education. 
  • Email your L# and a color photo of your letter from ALSDE to the Office of Educator Preparation at:
    • It is your responsibility to keep up with the original ALSDE clearance letter.  You will NOT be able to get a copy from the Office of Educator Preparation.
  • Please allow a minimum of two hours for us to post the information and clear you in the University system.
