Traditional Master's Degree Programs

The Department of Elementary Education offers traditional master’s programs that lead to Alabama Professional Educator Certification in collaborative teacher/special education and elementary education.

Traditional Master's Admission Requirements

  • Entrance Exam: A minimum score of 388 on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT), a score of 800 on the combined verbal and quantitative portions of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or a passing score on the appropriate Praxis II subject examination.
  • Degree: Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
  • GPA: Minimum grade point average of 3.00 (4.0 scale) on all undergraduate or graduate level coursework.
  • Valid Certificate: A valid bachelor’s-level professional educator certificate in the same field in which the Class A Professional Educator Certificate is sought.

Education Specialist Degree Programs

The Department of Elementary Education offers an Education Specialist degree program that leads to certification in elementary education.

Education Specialist Admission Requirements

  • Entrance Exam: Candidates must meet all testing requirements set forth by the Alabama State Department of Education.
  • Degree: Candidates must hold a master's level degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
  • GPA: Candidates must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 (4.0 scale) on all master's level coursework.
  • Valid Certificate: A master's-level professional educator certificate in the same teaching field in which the Class AA Professional Educator Certificate is sought.
