Course Withdrawals
Complete University Withdrawal
Students who wish to completely withdraw from the university are indicating a need to be removed from all registered courses and to have their enrollment status marked and reported as withdrawn.
If a student wishes to withdraw from ALL of their classes, an official withdrawal form must be completed.
Before completing this form, students should contact their academic advisor to discuss the impact of withdrawing from the institution. When withdrawing during the semester, a ‘W’ grade assignment will be entered for each course. The last day to submit the official withdrawal form if the last day of the withdrawal period for each semester. Please refer to the Academic Calendar for this date.
Withdrawing from the University may have implications on future financial aid eligibility and student loan repayment. Students may be required to repay their financial aid, including scholarships, grants, or loans. If a student is receiving financial aid, they must contact the Student Financial Aid Office at financialaid@una.edu.
Students in the United States on student visa, veterans or military personnel, and NCAA student-athletes must consult with the relevant offices before withdrawing from the University.
Once this form is complete, it should be sent to registrar@una.edu.

Implications of Complete University Withdrawal
Students who wish to completely withdrawn for the university are indicating a need to be removed from all registered courses and to have their enrollment status marked and reported as withdrawn. The last day to withdraw for the university is listed on the Academic Calendar. Once the withdrawal request form is processed, the action is irreversible. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate the withdrawal process from all classes and ensure all university obligations are met.
Withdrawal from the University of North Alabama does not necessarily indicate a clearance of financial or other obligations. All obligations must be met regardless of withdrawal status. Leaving the university without filing a formal withdrawal notice will result in failing grades in all courses for which the student is registered. Withdrawing from a residence hall is not the same as withdrawing from university coursework.
Refund of fees and tuition are granted if a student drops courses during the add/drop period based on the Academic Calendar. No refunds of tuition and fees will be given after the add/drop period listed on the Academic Calendar.
Students who withdraw from the university are responsible for any balance remaining on their account. Contact the Student Accounts Office at studentaccounts@una.edu for questions regarding bills.
If a student withdraws from the university, the student must vacate university housing within twenty-four (24) hours unless an exception is approved by Housing and Residence Life.
Prior to departure, all personal belongings must be removed from the assigned room or apartment, and all keys must be returned through the Express Checkout Box located outside the Housing and Residence Life Office. Any damages identified during the checkout process will be assessed and charged to the student’s account. Failure to properly complete the checkout process may result in improper checkout fees and lock change charges, if applicable.
No refunds of tuition or fees will be issued after the add/drop period as published on the Academic Calendar.
Apartment Residents: Students who withdraw prior to the end of the add/drop period will be charged only for the days they occupied the apartment.
Residence Hall Residents: Students who withdraw prior to the end of the add/drop period are eligible for a full housing refund.
Contact housing@una.edu for any questions.
Withdrawing from all courses could cause the loss of financial aid for future terms and/or repayment for the current term. In accordance with federal regulations, a student may be required to repay a portion of federal financial aid if withdrawn prior to the end of the semester. The Student Financial Aid Office reviews all accounts for the Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4) if a student does not complete an enrollment period. Complete withdrawals may impact a student’s ability to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Contact the Student Financial Aid Office at financialaid@una.edu for questions regarding aid and withdrawals.
Withdrawing from a course will result in a grade assignment of W on student’s transcripts. A W grade assignment is not calculated into the GPA at the university and does not have negative or positive impact on the GPA calculation at the university.
