At the University of North Alabama, we are committed to helping first-generation college students succeed in college and beyond. Through campus resources, meaningful connections, and a strong sense of community, we strive to ensure every first-generation student feels supported, valued, and empowered to achieve their goals.

Who is a first-generation college student?
A first-generation college student is someone whose parent(s) or guardian(s) did not complete a four-year bachelor's degree.

First-Gen Connections

Small groups of first-generation students led by a peer facilitator and supported by a faculty/staff partner. Students meet monthly to

  • Share experiences
  • Learn college tips
  • Connect to campus resources
First-Gen Friday Brunch and Learns

Monthly brunch conversations featuring faculty, staff, and students. Topics include: money & budgeting, study strategies, career planning, campus resources, internships.
