Concentration A: Instructional Design for Teaching, Learning, and Leading Track

Graduate students in Concentration A emerge from our program prepared to provide instructional design leadership in traditional educational settings—namely, schools. This track focuses on developing interactive curriculum for K-12 settings—including libraries and media centers—as well as colleges and universities. You will learn to design and facilitate student instruction through efficient planning, development, evaluation, and management.

Concentration B: Workplace Design and Performance Improvement Track

Ongoing learning is a vital practice of any successful organization. Students choosing Concentration B will be equipped to design and direct education programs and initiatives for businesses and organizations in multiple industries, with a particular focus on applying technology toward effective corporate training. You will become proficient in evaluating learning technologies, programs, and trends. Instructional designers, corporate trainers, and development specialists work in nearly every industry.

Faculty

In our online MSITD program, you will learn from dedicated full-time faculty—all holding PhDs and/or terminal degrees from leading universities—as you pursue your graduate degree. As the primary professor and coordinator for this program, Dr. Natasha Lindsey brings five years of higher education administration experience, 19 years of business and instructional design and technology teaching experience, and nine years of practical instructional design experience. Dr. Lindsey earned her PhD in this field and holds an MBA with a concentration in marketing and management. Natasha is an active contributor to Quality Matters, an international non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and improve the quality of online education and student learning through research-supported, practice-based quality standards — and recognition of expertise in online education quality assurance and evaluation.

Admission Requirements

Admission into the online Master of Science in Instructional Technology and Design program at North Alabama includes the following requirements:

Unconditional Admission

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally-accredited US based institution or an institution recognized by the government of another country.
  • An overall undergraduate grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, as reported on the transcript of the qualifying degree granting institution.

Conditional Admission

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally-accredited US based institution or an institution recognized by the government of another country.
  • An overall undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, as reported on the transcript of the qualifying degree granting institution.

Conditionally admitted students must successfully achieve a B or higher on a prescribed number of credit hours to be moved to unconditional graduate status.

Transfer Admission

In addition to the general requirements for Transfer Admission to Graduate Studies, up to six semester hours of graduate credit by transfer will be accepted with the approval of the graduate program coordinator. Exceptions must be approved by the graduate program coordinator, department chair, and college dean.

 

Application Deadlines

Students may be accepted and enroll to begin the program in January, June, or August. All courses are offered in eight-week formats. We recommend that students complete their application for admission at least two months prior to their desired enrollment date in order to have time to submit all documentation.

Tuition and Aid

Online: $495 per credit hour plus fees. New students enrolled in any online bachelor’s degree, graduate program (online or on-campus), certificate, or micro-credential will automatically qualify and receive a complimentary first course tuition scholarship when enrolled in two or more courses their first semester. Plus, for a limited time, no application fee required for our affordable, reputable program.
