Three alumni win for songwriting and publishing

FLORENCE, Ala. - The faculty and 23 students of the UNA Department of Entertainment Industry were among the UNA and Shoals-area guests at last night's American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Awards show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

The invitation-only event is made possible each year by ASCAP to regional music business and entertainment industry programs. Participating institutions are UNA, Belmont University and Middle Tennessee State University. UNA and Muscle Shoals music were well represented as alumni Mark Hall ('85) and Clay Myers ('86) received publisher awards and John Paul White ('99) received a songwriter award. Mac McAnally, who will perform at a UNA music scholarship benefit concert Nov. 12, won a publisher and songwriter award for his duet with Kenny Chesney, "Down the Road."
