FLORENCE, Ala. - Newly crowned Miss University of North Alabama Brandi Lewis will show off her pageant attire during the Miss UNA Trunk Show April 27 at 3 p.m. in the GUC Performance Center. As Lewis prepares for the Miss Alabama pageant that will take place in Birmingham at Samford University June 8-11, UNA students, faculty and community members will have the chance to give Lewis a good luck sendoff and also see the gowns she will wear in the Miss America preliminary pageant. "This is the only time many people will get to see Brandi in all of her competition wear," said Cheryl Mathis, coordinator of programming for the UNA Office of Student Engagement. "If you're curious to see how well she will do and to wish her well, this is a great opportunity to do that." Emcee for the trunk show will be UNA junior Traci Hite, a fellow Phi Mu sister with Lewis and former Miss UNA contestant. The event will also feature entertainment by dance group Alpha Beta Organizational; Brittany Jordan, Miss Black and Gold 2011; and Ann-Marie Russ, second runner-up for Miss UNA 2011. The Miss UNA trunk show is by invitation only as the university will also provide food at the event. However, any interested student or faculty member who would like to attend may do so without charge. Lewis will go on to compete for the title of Miss Alabama in June alongside other pageant winners across the state. If she wins, she will represent Alabama in the Miss America pageant next winter. Lewis, of Homewood, is a political science major and works to promote the platform "A Chance to Dream." For more information, contact the Office of Student Engagement at 256-765-4248.
