'the President's Own' U.s. Marine Band To Perform Free Concert At Una Oct. 8

FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of North Alabama Department of Music and Theatre will host "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, performing at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 in Norton Auditorium. Free tickets, in groups of four, may be reserved by calling 256-765-4362 or 256-765-4361 or by sending a SASE to UNA Band, UNA Box 5240, Florence, AL 35632-0001. "This is, without question, the greatest band in the world," said Dr. Lloyd Jones, UNA band director. "To hear this band perform is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Founded in 1798 by an Act of Congress, "The President's Own" United States Marine Band is America's oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Today, "The President's Own" is celebrated for its role at the White House and its dynamic public performances. "The President's Own" encompasses the United States Marine Band, Marine Chamber Orchestra and Marine Chamber Ensembles and performs regularly at the White House and for more than 500 public performances across the nation each year.
