FLORENCE, AL – Faculty, staff, and students in the Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions will have Leo’s Feel Good Fest, a campus and community-wide wellness event, on Thursday, April 9, from 4-7 p.m. in Harrison Hall and Stevens Hall on the University of North Alabama campus.
“Leo’s Feel Good Fest was created to help promote both physical and mental wellness for our campus and community,” said Dr. Lisa Harrington, event organizer and Associate Professor of Mental Health Nursing. “We are proud to host this event in our beautiful nursing building, Harrison Hall, and to introduce our fabulous new Occupational Therapy department in Stevens Hall.”
The event aims to highlight the many wellness resources available in Florence and the greater Shoals area, while fostering connection, education, and well-being across the campus and community. Thanks to the generosity of Women of Influence, the signature initiative of UNA’s First Lady Dena Kitts, Leo’s Feel Good Fest includes a variety of engaging activities, such as yoga, hip hop cardio, massage, a sensory room, student-led health education tables, Luna the therapy dog, as well as campus and community wellness resources to promote mental and physical wellness.
This year’s event will also feature the ACONHP’s Occupational Therapy program in the newly remodeled first floor of Stevens Hall. Within this space is the Pediatric Lab and Sensory Room space, which has a variety of interactive sensory items for students to use calming and stress relief.
“Within the mental health realm, occupational therapy practitioners support individuals in building coping skills, developing healthy habits and routines, improving social participation, and using creative and sensory-based strategies to regulate emotions,” said Dr. Laura Smith, Director of the Occupational Therapy program.
Registration will take place in Harrison Hall beginning at 4 p.m. Events will take place throughout the first floors of both Harrison Hall and Stevens Hall. Those who participate are asked to arrive early in order to register for door prizes and to engage with the entertainment and activities.
