UNA Police Receive E-Bikes Thanks to Generous Donors

FLORENCE, AL – The University of North Alabama Police Department is the proud owner of two electronic bikes, or e-bikes, thanks to the generosity of several donors. The Spinning Spoke in downtown Florence and the Parke Cochran Insurance Agency provided the majority of the funding, along with a few anonymous donors, to make the e-bikes possible.

“We are thrilled to add these e-bikes to our resources as we patrol campus,” said UNA PD Chief Les Jackson. “The donors who helped make these possible are making a difference in the lives of our officers and our campus community as well as further emphasizing the safety of the university. We are very grateful.”

The first e-bike made its appearance on campus late in the Fall 2025 semester. Chief Jackson said the bikes, the second of which is expected to arrive soon, will assist with providing an ease of responsiveness for officers. The e-bikes allow officers to respond to areas and spaces around campus that are not easily accessed by vehicle.

“UNA is a very pedestrian-friendly campus, and the e-bikes allow our officers to be in those areas and increase their visibility. Further, this will provide more opportunities for community engagement,” he said. “Our officers do a great job, and this is another important tool for them to have as part of their roles in making sure each of UNA’s campuses is safe for students, faculty, and staff.”
