FLORENCE, AL – Dr. Cheryl Price, Associate Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences within the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering, has been awarded a prestigious Mellon Fellowship in order to attend the HERS Leadership Institute. The fellowship includes a full stipend to attend the institute on behalf of the University of North Alabama.

“My primary goal (for applying and participating in the Institute) is to hone my leadership skills so I can better serve my school, college, and the university at large,” Dr. Price said. “Over the last three years, I have learned the importance of being able to reach out to colleagues at other universities, and I am looking forward to expanding my network by meeting people working in higher education across the country.”

The HERS Leadership Institute has four prongs that will allow Dr. Price to pursue her goals: self-assessment, institutional knowledge, networking, and application. Participants design a Leadership Project they will implement when they return from the program. The project should result in a change for the university by improving processes and starting a new initiative.

“I am also eager to work on a leadership project that will involve working with faculty and staff from CASE as well as my colleagues from across the university,” she said. “I got into administration because I like solving problems and organizing, and I would like to work on a project that helps streamline processes to allow my colleagues more time to focus on their teaching and research.”

The Mellon Fellowship is supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which promotes the arts and humanities. The HERS Mellon Fellowship is only open to faculty from Humanities disciplines. The award is based on leadership potential and applicants’ advocacy of the humanities.
