Michelle Eubanks, UNA, at meubanks@una.edu, 256-606-2033 or 256-765-4392 FLORENCE, AL - The University of North Alabama and Cypress Creek Indoor Range have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will benefit Cypress Creek Indoor Range employees who want to further their education as well as UNA faculty, staff, and students. "From the beginning of our planning, it was one of our goals to be a community partner with UNA," said Gene Schrieber, a co-owner of Cypress Creek Indoor Range. "We didn't know exactly what that would look like, but we knew it could be a beneficial partnership for both UNA and CCIR. From our point of view, the MOU gives us the opportunity to fulfill that goal by providing a safe and structured learning environment for students and faculty. We will now be introducing students to shooting sports, as well as helping those who have chosen a career that involves firearms to become proficient with those firearms." As part of the MOU, UNA will provide a tuition discount to CCIR employees, which Schrieber said would help with the recruitment and retention of employees who want to pursue or complete a degree program. "UNA looks forward to developing this relationship with Cypress Creek Indoor Range," said Dr. Ross Alexander, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at UNA. "This provides a wonderful opportunity for our students, especially those in certain programs, such as criminal justice, to become adept in skills they'll need when they enter the workforce."
