Evan Jones Holds His First Una Faculty Recital Next Week

FLORENCE, Ala. - Evan Jones, who joined the University of North Alabama as director of vocal studies last fall, will perform his first UNA faculty recital next Tuesday. The recital will also feature UNA music faculty Dr. Yi-Min Cai and Dr. Eddie Elsey. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the GUC Performance Center. Jones has sung a wide variety of roles in opera, operetta and musical theater. Highlights include both Mozart's and Rossini's Figaro as well as Danilo Danilovich in The Merry Widow, and Fredrik Egerman in A Little Night Music. In concert, he has been featured as the baritone soloist in Faure's Requiem, Vaughn Williams' Five Mystical Songs, Serenade to Music and Dona Nobis Pacem, John Rutter's Mass for the Children and as Porgy/Jake/Sportin' Life in Porgy and Bess. Jones has sung with the Berkshire Opera Company, Compania Lirica Nacional de Costa Rica, Eastman Opera Theater, Florida State Opera, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Augusta Choral Society. In the past two seasons, Jones has made debuts with Mercury Opera of Rochester as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Sivigila, in recital with Full Circle Music of Indianapolis and as a guest artist with the Finger Lakes Choral Festival, the Amherst Symphony and the Shoals Symphony. He was also the baritone soloist on the world premiere recording of the Randol Bass work Passage Into Spirit with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, released in summer 2009. In April 2010, Jones will once again take the stage as Rossini's Figaro with the Helena Symphony Orchestra in Montana.
