FLORENCE, AL - University of North Alabama Alumnus of the Year and Grammy Award winner John Paul White will perform as part of the "Home for the Holidays" concert set for 7 p.m. Dec. 4 in Norton Auditorium. Tickets are on sale, and proceeds will benefit the John Paul White Entertainment Industry Endowed Scholarship.

"It's my pleasure to team up with my great friends at UNA and the Department of Entertainment Industry to perform and benefit my endowed scholarship fund," White said. "I never dreamed I'd be in a position to give back to students of the university. It's one of the most rewarding and humbling experiences of my home. The icing on the cake is that I get an excuse to play Christmas songs with my band, only a couple of blocks from my home. I'm definitely a lucky guy."

White graduated from UNA in 1999 with a degree in Business Administration in Management with a concentration in Entertainment Industry Management. In 2009, he joined Joy Williams to form The Civil Wars, and, in 2012, the duo won a Grammy Award for best Folk Album and Country Performance by a Duo or Group. Today, White is the co-owner of Single Lock Records, based in Florence. His most recent album, "The Hurting Kind," was released in 2018

"The Department of Entertainment Industry is proud of its successful alumni," said Dr. Bob Garfrerick, Professor and Chair of the Department of Entertainment Industry. "As a Grammy Award winner, John Paul White exemplifies the highest level of achievement in his field. We have been lucky to remain engaged with John over the years as a guest to classes and a panelist for our events. We hold him in very high regard. Additionally, through the Alumni Association and John's generosity, we have his endowed scholarship to award annually to students. We are excited to be a part of his legacy."
