In the Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of North Alabama, Dr. Melissa DeFoor and Dr. Ann-Marie Irons had an idea that would improve perinatal education in the community, and, as it turns out, well beyond the Shoals.

Birmingham-based program management firm HPM has been selected to serve as the program manager for University of North Alabama new Bank Independent Stadium. The firm will also provide owner’s representation and preconstruction services for the state-of-the-art, multipurpose facility on UNA’s campus in Florence. Davis Architects has been selected as the architect of record. The project is in the design phase with targeted completion during the 2026-27 academic year.
Five graduates were honored for outstanding achievement during the recent fall commencement ceremonies that took place recently at the University of North Alabama. Three students were awarded the Keller Key, and two students received the Turris Fidelis award.
Sky watchers will be in for a bit of a treat the early weeks of December as the Geminid meteors will peak on the night of December 14 and 15. This year’s Geminids will peak during a waxing crescent moon, so the moon will not be a factor in diminishing the number of meteors that may be seen, making for almost perfect conditions if weather cooperates.

Dr. Michael Pretes, Chair of the Department of Geoscience at the University of North Alabama, has been named the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient by the Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers (SEDAAG) at the annual meeting earlier this month.

For the second consecutive year, the University of North Alabama has broken all previous fundraising records for FY23 that concluded Sept. 30. The previous record of $22,865,000 raised in FY22 has been exceeded by more than $11.5 million dollars for a total raised of $33,545,310.
